Capital City Drug Bust May Have Prevented Thousands of ODs

IMPD says they have 45 lbs. of heroin and each hit is as big as a grain of sand.

INDIANAPOLIS--A drug bust in the capital city may have prevented thousands of overdoses. Police say they took three quarters of a million dollars worth of drugs, guns and $40,000 in cash during the bust, and arrested four people.

"There's absolutely no way to tell what we did to prevent drug overdoses," said Capt. Scott Hessong, with IMPD, speaking to reporters at a news conference Tuesday evening. "To give you an idea, each use of heroin is like a grain of sand. And we have 45 lbs. that's packed solid."

The investigation that led to the bust began in March.

Police did not release the names of the people arrested.
