Carmel Clay Schools Extends School Day to Make Up For Time Missed

CCS will add ten minutes to the school day starting Feb. 19 to make up for classes missed due to bad weather.

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -- The school day for kids in Carmel is about to get a little bit longer.

Carmel Clay Schools will add 10 minutes to each school day starting Tuesday, Feb. 19 to make up for classes missed due to bad weather, according to Current in Carmel.

The district has canceled four school days this year; it must make up two of those days to meet the 180 days of instructional time required by state law.

“After thoroughly discussing the various options for make-up days, we believed extending the school day through the end of the year is the best option,” CCS Superintendent Michael Beresford said in an email to parents.

School start times will remain the same.

Elementary schools will dismiss at 2:45 p.m. Middle and high schools will dismiss at 3:15 p.m.

If classes are canceled again, the district plans to add even more time to the school day.
