A child was killed and six other people were injured in a crash on Interstate 69 Tuesday.

Indiana State Police say a car carrying five people abruptly stopped in the northbound right lane and a pickup with two people inside plowed into the back of it around noon Tuesday near Daleville, about 40 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

Police say a second child and an adult were airlifted to hospitals in Indianapolis.

A State Police spokesperson said the victims included three adults and two children in a passenger car, and one adult in a truck.

Northbound traffic was being diverted at exit 226, State Road 9, and southbound traffic was taken off the interstate at exit 234, State Road 267.

Southbound lanes reopened shortly after 1 p.m.
