DARLINGTON, Ind.--Two children are dead and their mother has been arrested for it in Darlington, which is in Montgomery County. The sheriff there said the woman also tried to kill herself by stabbing herself in the neck, while her husband slept in the basement.

"I just stabbed myself and killed my two children," said Brandi Worley, 30, when she made a 911 call about 4:30 Thursday morning. She also admitted to killing them to a sheriff's deputy on the scene, according to Montgomery County Sheriff Mark Casteel.

The kids were Tyler and Charlee Worley, age 7 and 3.

Tyler attended Sugar Creek Elementary. The North Montgomery School district sent a letter home to parents on Thursday afternoon saying they had grief counselors on hand to provide counseling and support to any student affected by the tragedy.

"The childrens' father was at home," said the sheriff. "However he was in the basement. He was asleep and unaware that these crimes had been committed."

Jason Worley had filed for divorce from his wife Wednesday, reported RTV6. He and his wife had been married since August 2009. He requested custody, visitation and child support benefits as part of the divorce agreement. He had also asked that the judge make an 'equitable division' of their property.

Casteel held a press conference Thursday. He said autopsies on the children, who appeared to have been stabbed, would be conducted Friday at 10 a.m.

"I can't imagine the pain and the grief that these families are experiencing," said Casteel, before a long pause where he nearly teared up.

"Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers."
