Dillinger Nephew Seeks New Permit to Exhume Gangster's Body

Michael Thompson, who says his mother was Dillinger's half-sister, says he wants to find out if the infamous gangster is really buried at Crown Hill cemetery.

INDIANAPOLIS --  There's a new application to get the remains of John Dillinger exhumed from Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Siblings Michael C. Thompson and Carol Thompson Griffith, who say their mother was Dillinger’s half-sister, requested a second permit after their permit for a Monday exhumation expired.

The goal of the new request is to have the infamous gangster's remains exhumed on Dec. 3.

Crown Hill Cemetery has said it opposes the exhumation and the State Department of Health has yet to approve the application.

The History Channel had planned to turn the endeavor into a documentary but has since backed out.
