FedEx Plans to Upgrade Indy Hub, Create Hundreds of Jobs
INDIANAPOLIS -- FedEx wants to expand its Indianapolis sorting hub and bring on hundreds of new workers over the next ten years.
The Indianapolis Business Journal reports that FedEx plans to spend $385 million on new sorting equipment and create around 125 full-time jobs and 450 part-time jobs.
Fed Ex would begin installing the new equipment sometime in 2018 and finish in 2026, according to IBJ. The new positions would be created during that time.
IBJ says the new full-time positions would pay an average wage of $17.44 an hour. The new part-time workers would earn an average of $13.23 an hour.
As part of the expansion, FedEx has asked the city for a 10-year, $29.2 million in tax abatement, which city leaders will consider over the next few weeks.
