FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A veteran member of the Fort Wayne police department died Monday night.
Officer David Tinsley, 50, collapsed while walking back to his car after a chase says, WOWO. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where he died.
Fort Wayne police say Tinsley was involved in the pursuit of a stolen car driven by 49-year-old Patrick Faiers.
WOWO says Faiers ditched the car in a wooded area near the St. Mary’s River and continued on foot. He was chased by Tinsley, his partner, and a police K-9 officer.
Tinsley collapsed shortly after Faiers was arrested.
The Fort Wayne Police Department is asking for residents to lower their flags to half-staff in remembrance.
In a statement, Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry said Tinsley was a respected and valued member of the Fort Wayne Police Department.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the Tinsley family during this most difficult time. We’re fortunate to live in a community that appreciates and understands the important role that law enforcement has in our everyday lives. We’re a safer and stronger City because of the men and women of the FWPD.”
