INDIANAPOLIS — A new grant will give students at an Indianapolis school plenty of outdoor learning opportunities.
It’s thanks to a $10,000 “Give Adventure” grant, given to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish & Wildlife from the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation.
The grant will be used to install a native plant and pollinator habitat on the grounds of Wendell Phillips School 63 in Indianapolis.
DNR says youth and young adults participating in Groundwork Indy’s GroundCorp program will assist with the grant’s habitat plantings, gaining job skills and experience in natural resources, habitat development and construction.
Angela Haywood, Director of Education & Outreach, says the goal for the crew’s training is to help prepare them for potential careers with DNR and in other natural resources related fields in the future.
Once the native plantings are completed, there will be a community festival. The celebratory event will allow students to showcase the project and the lasting benefits it will provide to the community and its wildlife.
