Greenwood City Councilman Resigns As Police Investigate Criminal Complaint Against Him
GREENWOOD, Ind. – A Greenwood City Councilman has resigned as police investigate a criminal complaint made against him.
According to the Daily Journal, Brent Corey stepped down from the council after Indiana State Police searched Sizemore Insurance Agency in Greenwood, which Corey owns.
Police say they had received the complaint against Corey in June. The case was turned over to the State Police to avoid any conflicts of interest with his prior relationship with the Greenwood Police Department in his role as council member.
State Police did not say why Corey was being investigated. He has neither been arrested nor charged.
Corey had served on the council for ten years.
A caucus is planned for Sept. 18 among Greenwood Republican Party precinct committee members to select Corey’s replacement on the city council.
A separate caucus is scheduled for Sept. 6 to replace city council member Dr. Chuck Landon, who died Aug. 8.
