Heavy Voter Turnout In Braun and Donnelly's Respective Home Neighborhoods

WITZ in Jasper reports there has been a 30-percent early voter turnout in DuBois County, where Braun lives. WEFM in Michigan City says more than 10,000 early voters have cast ballots in Michigan City where Donnelly owns a home.

INDIANAPOLIS -- With reports of heavy voter turnout across Indiana, those who live and work near the two U.S. Senate candidates say the draw to the polls has been greater this election cycle.

Republican Senate candidate Mike Braun lives in Jasper and owns several businesses in the area.

Walt Ferber with WITZ radio in Jasper, says there has been a 30-percent turnout at the polls in DuBois County this mid-term election, which he says is the highest early voting turnout on record.

"[Mike Braun has] his businesses, and his wife Maureen owns a company called Finishing Touches.  They have allowed employment for a large number of people and they're well known by everyone in the area," says Ferber.

Voter turnout has also been heavy in northwestern Indiana where Democrat Senator Joe Donnelly lives.

Ron Miller, Station Manager with WEFM in Michigan City, says more than 10,000 people have voted early in LaPorte County, which is more than the early vote total in the 2016 Presidential election.

"Joe Donnelly has a home here in Michigan City and spends a lot of time here.  He also has done extremely well in very heavily Democratic Lake County, so northwestern Indiana will be very strong in support of Joe Donnelly," says Miller.

Donnelly also has a home in Granger, which is a suburb of South Bend.

The polls across Indiana close at 6 p.m. local time.
