A Hoosier Forgives: Movie About Eva Kor to Premiere in April

Eva Kor is a Holocaust survivor and has done many things for Indiana and the world. Her story is being told first at Clowes Hall.

INDIANAPOLIS--A film about Holocaust survivor Eva Kor will premiere in Indianapolis and Terre Haute in April. The movie, titled "Eva", will premiere at Butler's Clowes Hall on April 5 and at Indiana State's Tilson Auditorium on April 14.

The film, produced by WFYI Public Media and Ted Green Films, follows Kor's life, from her Romanian Jewish upbringing, through her life at a Nazi death camp, and on to her achievements after she made Indiana her home, which include helping to start the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Edication Center, in Terre Haute.

“I heard (Nazi Dr. Josef) Mengele say that I only had two weeks to live, and I decided I was going to prove him wrong,” said Kor, about her Auschwitz experience. “I didn’t understand what I did. Why did Hitler hate me?”

At age 83, Kor now has a better understanding of why she’s endured so many trials throughout her life, said a news release from the movie company.

Her story doesn’t come without controversy, particularly her decision to publicly forgive Mengele, Hitler, and all Nazis, and it’s all part of “Eva,” written and produced by award-winning filmmaker Ted Green.

“I've never seen a greater personal example of the triumph of the human spirit than Eva Mozes Kor,” said Green. “Her psychological transformation and the good she's doing for others are astonishing."

The film is narrated by Ed Asner and includes on-camera appearances from CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, former NBA great Ray Allen, TV and movie star Elliott Gould and many others, all of whom reveal touching accounts of Kor’s impact on their own lives.

Green said he and the film company followed Kor's story all over the world, gathering interviews.

Tickets are $40 and go on sale January 19 at 10 a.m. Buy your seats at the Clowes and Tilson box offices and on Ticketmaster.
