Hoosier Law Firms Launch Annual Contest to Top Each Other in Food Bank Donations

Program has collected average of four tons of food a year since 2009

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Lawyers across Indiana are ramping up charitable efforts this month for Indiana food banks.

It's the Indiana State Bar Association's 10th annual "March Against Hunger," encouraging law firms to compete to donate the most food or cash to nine regional food banks in Indiana, plus two in Cincinnati and Louisville which serve southern Indiana.

The drive has brought in an average of nearly four tons of food a year, but bar association president Andi Metzel says the monetary donations are even more important. She says food banks need unrestricted funds for programs like Gleaners' "Back Sacks" of identical, nutritionally sound meals for kids.

The winning law firms in five categories receive a trophy at a bar association banquet. A sixth trophy goes to the highest-donating public agency, nonprofit or local bar association.
