INDIANAPOLIS — Mayor Joe Hogsett says his 2019 budget includes $126 million dollars for road, sidewalk and bridge projects.

The City-County Council approved the city’s 2019 budget — including Mayor Hogsett’s infrastructure package — during a meeting Monday night.

Drivers across the city are wondering if that means their streets will be repaired.

The city plans to repair concrete at Morris St. and West. St. just south of downtown and repair asphalt in that area downtown to Bluff Road.

The Department of Public Works said the city will also repair bridges at Lynhurst Drive over Mars Ditch and at Senate Avenue. over Fall Creek.

With temperatures dropping, drivers can also expect to see short-term fixes around town like pothole patching.

The mayor plans to dedicate more than $25 million dollars to resurfacing and $31 million total on street projects. His staff said the plan is to repair more than 442 miles of roads.

Melissa Urquhart moved here about three years and she’d had a few bumpy winters.

“I am familiar with 56th Street being pretty shotty on the potholes and a lot of turbulence when I’m driving along there,” Urquhart said. “I would also say that, when I visit my friends on the west side, Michigan Road needs a lot of attention. Give it some love.”

Uquhart’s message to the city: get started on the repairs ASAP so things are smoother this winter.

A DPW spokesperson declined to say when in 2019 the repairs will happen. WIBC news-gather partner News 8 requested an interview with DPW but no one was available Tuesday.

The city has not released a complete list of roads that will be repaired in 2019.
