IFD: Four People Hurt in Crash on I-465
INDIANAPOLIS -- Four people were taken to the hospital Monday after a multi-car crash on westbound I-465.
Police say the accident happened on westbound I-465 near I-65 between Carson Avenue and Keystone Avenue.
Three semis, a flatbed truck, a box truck, and a car were inolved in the crash, according to Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith.
Investigators believe the first semi slowed to a stop, causing a chain-reaction crash.
The box truck went off the road and into the grass. The flatbed truck was carrying steel rods which came off the truck and went into the passenger side of the front windshield of the semi truck behind it.
"The rods went completely through the front and into the rear bedding area of the cab where one of the men was sleeping. Neither of the men were seriously injured, however, that would not have been the case had he been sitting in the front passenger seat," Reith said.
Four people were taken to the hospital after the crash, but none of their injuries were life-threatening.
