INDIANAPOLIS--The neighbors of a man who died in an overnight fire in Indianapolis, last saw him at 10:30 Monday night. He had come by to ask a favor. Just two hours later he was found dead by firefighters.

The Indianapolis Fire Dept. says he is the fourth person to die in a fire in Indy this year. The victim was ID’d only as a 62-year-old white man.

Battalion Chief Rita Reith said they got the call shortly after 12:30 this morning and when firefighters got into the house at 28th and Illinois St., they had a tough time searching for the man because of excessive clutter and three feet of debris.

There were also no working smoke alarms.

Indianapolis Metro Police homicide detectives will assist with the investigation, per standard protocol. Three cats are also unaccounted for.
