IMPD Officer Involved in Motorcycle Crash in Speedway

The crash happened at around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department motorcycle officer was involved in a motorcycle crash this morning on Indy's west side.

IMPD says the crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Philwood Drive and 25th Street in Speedway.

The officer was taken to Methodist Hospital. His condition is not known.

An IMPD spokesperson said it's being investigated as a hit-and-run crash. The other driver attempted to flee the scene, but was apprehended through the assistance of a citizen. It is unknown how the citizen was able to help. 

A spokesperson with the Speedway Police Department said the other driver is now cooperating with police.
