CAMP ATTERBURY, Ind. -- A group of Indiana National Guardsmen are preparing to deploy to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in the coming weeks.
It was standing room only during the commemoration ceremony Saturday morning where approximately 120 guard members with the 387th Military Police Company were honored before their deployment.
Since September, the soldiers have been completing pre-mobilization training that consists of law of war, suicide awareness and prevention, resiliency training, weapons qualification, non-lethal weapons training and basic soldier tasks.
The troop will leave Monday for Fort Bliss, Texas for their final 25 days of detainee-operations training before heading to Cuba where they will perform detainee operations.
The company will be led by Captain Melissa Gordon, of Indianapolis, and 1st Sgt. Johnathan Wilson of New Albany.
