INDIANAPOLIS After a weekend where six people died from shootings in the span of 24 hours, one local group says, “enough is enough.”

“As a community, we’re going to have to start asking and answering the tough questions of ‘how do we get back to loving our neighbor?’” says Rick Snyder, President of the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police #86. “But, also, we have to hold accountable those that do harm.”

His group is organizing a peace walk on Friday night in Indy, to “send a clear message.”

After making the announcement on Wednesday, Snyder says they have already received a lot of responses.

“We’ve had several local organizations and groups, like the Ten Point Coalition. We’ve also received response from members of the law enforcement family throughout Indianapolis and Marion County.”

The peace walk will begin at the intersection of 34th Street and Keystone Avenue. There is a reason why they chose that location.

“That’s in the 46218 zip code, which is still considered the deadliest zip code in our city,” Snyder says. “So we’re going right to the heart of the issue. It’s also an area where several of our local law enforcement officers have laid down their lives.”

Snyder believes there will be a day where he sees this type of violence end in his city.

“I absolutely have faith that we will. But it will only occur when our residents stand together for peace in our neighborhoods, and stand in solidarity in that issue.”

The peace walk begins Friday night at 7 p.m.
