K-9 Officer Killed in Fishers Police Chase, Suspects Identified
UPDATE: The two suspects have been identified as Richard Garrett Jr. and Rashaana Farrow.
FISHERS, Ind.--A police chase that started just after midnight ended in the Saxony neighborhood, near Olio Rd., in Fishers. Police were chasing two suspects they believed were driving drunk. They later came to believe that at least one of them was armed.
Lt. Thomas Weger said the two were arrested after people in the area were told to lock their doors when they bailed out of their car. One suspect was arrested almost immediately, while the police searched for the other suspect for about three hours.
Police Chief Ed Gebhart said a K-9 officer, Harlej, was killed. Gebhart said officers heard a gunshot, or what they believe was one, in the woods where the dog was later found.
"It is my belief that he saved lives last night and we are thankful for his sacrifice," he said.

K9 Harlej answered his last call early this morning protecting his fellow officers and our community. We owe him & our men and women in uniform a debt of gratitude.
