Kentucky Woman Killed in I-65 Crash Near Lafayette

The six-vehicle crash shut down the southbound lanes of the interstate nearly all day Thursday.

CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. -- I-65 near Lafayette was shut down for most of the day Thursday due to a fatal crash.

Indiana State Police say one person died and three more people were taken to hospitals after a six-vehicle crash involving four semis.

It happened just after 9 a.m. near State Road 28 on I-65 southbound.

A truck driven by Toddrick Fairley, 23, of Mississippi told police he did not notice traffic had slowed down, as he was distracted, looking for a bottle on the floor. He slammed into the back of a vehicle driven by Timothy Fagley, 54, of Michigan City. That started a chain-reaction crash involving four more vehicles.

Ira Brockman, 81, of Kentucky was killed in the crash. Police say her car was "pancaked" between two semis.

Fagley was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in serious condition. Two more people were taken to IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

I-65 was closed in that area for nearly ten hours.
