Kokomo Man Charged With Murder After Death Of 8-Week-Old Baby

Police say Jaquail Smith, 22, was watching the baby on Nov. 8 when the mother found the boy with a swollen head. The infant later died at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

KOKOMO, Ind. – A Kokomo man has been charged in the death of an eight-week-old boy. 

Police say Jaquail Smith, 22, was watching the baby on Nov. 8 when the mother found the boy with a swollen head.   The infant later died at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. 

Investigators say Smith tested positive for THC, Amphetamine and Methamphetamine the day the baby died. 

Smith faces charges of murder, aggravated battery and voluntary manslaughter in the baby’s death and could be sentenced to life in prison without parole if convicted.
