Lafayette Police Officer Lane Butler Shot By Another Officer While On The Job
LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Lafayette police officer is in serious but stable condition after investigators say she was shot by another officer Tuesday morning.
Lafayette Police say Officer Lane Butler was with two other officers on a criminal complaint call at an apartment on 9th Street before 11 a.m. While searching the apartment for someone who may have been there with an outstanding warrant, a large dog got out of its cage and charged at the officers.
That’s when investigators say one of the officers fired a shot and it hit Officer Butler in the back. She was wearing a protective vest at the time, but the bullet entered above the vest.
Butler was taken to the hospital and is recovering.
