INDIANAPOLIS — Have you ever started to put together the traditional Thanksgiving Day meal for your family, only to find that you forgot a few items and need to rush to the store to pick them up?

Apparently, you aren’t alone.

Many Kroger stores, including the one at County Line Road and Emerson Avenue on the south side of Indianapolis, will be open until 4 p.m. Thanksgiving to accommodate those last-minute shoppers needing food for the Thanksgiving dinner table.

“Mainly we have men being sent in to get the things that the women need,” says Sabrina, who says she has worked 27 of the past 29 years on Thanksgiving Day at Kroger.

Sabrina says the majority of last-minute shoppers on Thanksgiving morning are buying, “more pop, more alcohol and usually more potatoes.”

Sabrina also says desserts are among the most popular things picked up on Thanksgiving morning.

“[Customers&#93 seem to be picking up a few more pumpkin pies because they probably ate the other ones the night before,” says Sabrina jokingly.

In addition, Wal-Mart stores will be open for 24 hours on Thanksgiving, but the “Black Friday” sales won’t start at many store locations until 6 p.m. Thursday.

Target says many of their store locations will open at 5 p.m. Thursday for “Black Friday” deals and will close at 1 a.m. Friday.  Many Target locations will reopen at 7 a.m. Friday.

Fresh Thyme stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Aldi’s, Costco and Sam’s Club will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
