LEBANON, Ind.–A four-year-old child was shot by a two-year-old sibling, said Lebanon Police.

The child was in critical condition and was taken to Riley Hospital for Children, said Sgt. Ben Phelps. The shooting happened at a house on North Park St.

Police did not explain how the child got a hold of the gun, not how the four-year-old ended up shot.

“Officers arrived to find a female child believed to be approximately four-years old had been shot in head by her younger brother, whom is believed to be approximately two-years old,” said a press release from Lebanon Police.

“This unfortunate incident occurred while the children were being cared for by their grandparents, which is where the shooting took place. Investigators from the Lebanon Police Department, as well as representatives from the Department of Family and Child Services, are currently investigating this incident,” said Sgt. Ben Phelps.
