Liberty Man Found Dead in Elementary School Parking Lot

Sheriff's deputies believe the man died on Saturday, two days before he was found outside Mount Carmel School in Franklin Co.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. --  Investigators in Franklin County have identified the person found dead in an elementary school parking lot.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Mt. Carmel School in Cedar Grove on Monday to investigate an abandoned van.

Inside the van, deputies found the body of William Shepard, 28, of Liberty.

Deputies think Shepard had been dead inside the van since early Saturday morning.

"The autopsy showed no signs of a struggle or trauma and a cause of death was not determined.  However, toxicology results are pending and could take up to six weeks to be completed," Major Gregory Mehlbauer told Eagle Country Online.

Shepard's death is not believed to be related to Mount Carmel School in any way.
