Major Cold With a Wind Chill of -25 Possible Tuesday Morning

Temperatures fall this afternoon and keep falling through Tuesday.

INDIANAPOLIS-The wind chill, which is what it feels like on your skin, could reach 25 below zero Tuesday morning, with an actual temperature of 10 below zero. That'll likely be the coldest part of the week.

The coldest day time high will be 5 degrees above zero, and that's expected Monday.

Experts on cold weather, with the Weather Prediction Center, operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), say frostbite can set in quickly, in 30 minutes or less, during weather that cold, and that puts you at risk for losing fingers, toes, and even your nose, if you stay out too long.

A wind chill advisory is in effect through Tuesday at 1 p.m. for Indianapolis and areas around I-70 and north.

This afternoon, temperatures will continue to fall, to zero by Sunday morning. And New Year's Eve celebrations, if they are outside, could be below zero.

Because of the cold, you're being asked to call 911 only if it's an actual emergency.
