Man Found Guilty of Stabbing Woman To Death In 2016

Jury finds Ralph Tait guilty of stabbing Starr Eldridge to death at his apartment in September of last year

INDIANAPOLIS -- A Marion County man has been found guilty of stabbing a woman to death in his apartment more than a year ago.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry says Ralph Tait stabbed Starr Eldridge to death in late September of 2016. It all happened at Tait's apartment on the west side of Indy.

When police searched Tait's apartment on a search warrant, officers found human hair on the steps outside. There were also bleach burns and red spots on the bedroom floor and blood was found near the master bedroom closet.

Court documents say that cleaning supplies were found throughout the apartment. Tait had also called his apartment’s management company and requested that the carpet be replaced and that he be allowed to change units on the day after the murder.

Witnesses told police they saw a man matching Tait's description dragging a blanket with human legs sticking out from his apartment.

Eldridge's body was found floating in the water along Waterfront Drive. An autopsy showed she had been stabbed 13 times.

Tait will be sentenced in January.
