Man Killed Outside Federal Building in Downtown Indy
INDIANAPOLIS--One man was killed in a shooting that happened outside the Minton-Capeheart Federal Building in downtown Indianapolis Tuesday afternoon.
IMPD says they were called to Michigan and Pennsylvania streets around 4:30 and heard that one man had been shot. He later died at the scene from his gunshot wounds.
Investigators don't believe this was a random act of violence. Police believe he was shot by a woman who knew him well.
"They were traveling in a car when something occurred in that car and we have a person shot. Those exact circumstances? I don't know," said IMPD Deputy Police Chief Chris Bailey.
The woman was taken into police custody.
Police are reviewing surveillance video and talking to witnesses to get more specific details about the shooting.
IMPD says no one working in the federal building had anything to do with the shooting.
Pennsylvania Street between Vermont and Michigan were temporarily closed while police were on the scene. That has since reopened.
This marks the eighth fatal shooting in Indianapolis in 2019.
