Man Sentenced for 2018 Indianapolis Murder

Anthony Steele, who shot and killed 18-year-old Elijah Lacey, will spend 52 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections.

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 52 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections for a 2018 murder.

The prosecutor’s office said Anthony Steele was sentenced Friday morning for the shooting death of 18-year-old Elijah Lacey.

On May 28, 2018, Steele and Lacey had made arrangements to meet.  Lacey was sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot in the 2100 block of North Post Road, when Steele entered Lacey’s vehicle through the passenger door. A struggle between the two then ensued. During the altercation, Steele fired several shots.

Security video, and Lacey’s Instagram messages, later helped police identify Steele as the suspect.

He was convicted of Lacey’s murder in June.

Following his time in the Indiana Department of Corrections, Steele will also serve three years of probation.
