Man Shoots Himself During Altercation with Police, Seriously Injured

IMPD says they spotted a suspicious looking vehicle parked on S. White River Parkway W. Drive. They went up to the vehicle and asked the man who he was, but he refused to answer the question.

INDIANAPOLIS--A man shot himself when he was confronted by police early Tuesday morning on the southwest side of Indianapolis.

IMPD says they spotted a suspicious looking vehicle parked on S. White River Parkway W. Drive. That's not far from I-70.

They went up to the vehicle and asked the man who he was, but he refused to answer the question.

Police say that sometime during the conversation, the driver began to struggle with officers and later shot himself with his own gun.

IMPD Public Affairs Patrolman Michael Hewitt says there is no evidence to suggest that any officers fired their guns. No officers were hurt.

The man was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

If you have any information on this case, be sure to call Crimestoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
