(INDIANAPOLIS) – Marion County Republicans need a new chairman, just months before Election Day.

Bryce Carpenter has been chairman for just six months — he took over in January when Jim Merritt stepped down to focus on his run for mayor. Carpenter says his workload at the logistics industry trade group Conexus is growing, and he concluded he couldn’t give both Conexus and the party his full attention.

Carpenter’s last day is July 30. Precinct leaders will then have until August 29 to choose a replacement.

Carpenter says he’s already talked to a few people interested in the job. He says he doesn’t expect the transition to interfere with the campaign. He says the party’s vice chair and executive director, City-County Council Minority Leader Mike McQuillen, and the candidates themselves have already put the pieces in place to keep their campaigns on track.
