McKinzie Roth On Being Local TV Spokesperson, Chasing Dream To Portland, Oregon

Roth, who graduated from Carmel High School and IU, has been doing local television ads while working as a TV reporter in Portland, Oregon.

INDIANAPOLIS – You may have seen the woman featured in the series of television commercials for Andy Mohr’s automobile dealerships and wondered who she was and how she got the job.

“The most asked question, is that Andy’s wife?  Is that’s Andy’s niece?  I am not,” says McKinzie Roth,  who has been doing television commercials for Andy Mohr’s dealerships in central Indiana for more than ten years.

“I did a previous commercial with the production team that does Andy’s commercials,” says Roth.  “The very first commercial we did was out in Avon.  It was a Toyota grand opening and I’ll never forget Andy was in a tux, I was in a red dress and it was a red carpet situation.  It was so much fun.  Andy and I got along really well and then I just started doing Avon spots and then it just grew and grew.”

GETTING HER FOOT IN THE DOOR

Roth grew up north of Indianapolis and graduated from Carmel High School.  She then went to Indiana University where she earned a degree in broadcast journalism before getting her first broadcasting job in radio working for Emmis Communications at Radio Now 93.1 prior to the station switching to 93 WIBC in Dec. 2007.

“I entered a ‘Who Wants to be a D.J.’ contest and that’s how I got into radio in the first place,” says McKinzie.  “I auditioned and I won.  I started on the weekends, and then moved up and got my own show doing middays there.”

Roth also was an emcee during timeouts and halftime of the Indiana Pacers games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.  She also did news reports and interviews for FOX 59 when Super Bowl XLVI was in Indianapolis in 2012.  Roth also contributed to WISH-TV “Indy Style” television show.

“I got to get my hands in everything and that’s what I love.  I love to learn about all aspect of the business,” says Roth.

CHASING HER DREAM TO PORTLAND, OREGON

Her passion for broadcasting lead to her to Portland, Oregon in 2015 when she was hired to be the morning show co-host for country music station 98.7 The Bull.  That opportunity led her to the Entertainment and Lifestyle Reporter role on Portland’s NBC affiliate KGW-TV, which she has been doing full-time since late last year.

Roth, her husband Pat and their seven-year-old daughter Lucy made the move to the West Coast, but it was a challenge considering she and Pat had lived in central Indiana their entire lives.

“My husband was a little reluctant.  He loves the Midwest, but he had faith in me and was like, ‘let’s go, let’s do this and try it.’  I’m a go-getter.  I don’t want to have any regrets in life.  It felt like a great opportunity,” says Roth.

In addition to doing television commercials for Andy Mohr’s automobile dealerships in central Indiana, Roth has recently been hired as a television spokesperson for Fuccillo Kia in Cape Coral, Florida.

Roth says the opportunity to fly back to Indianapolis to record new television commercials for Andy Mohr allows her, her husband and daughter to visit with her parents and family every few months.

“Carmel and Indiana will always be home for me.”

Roth says her ultimate goal is to become an entertainment reporter for a nationally syndicated television show or network.

“For me, my ideal job would be to work for E! News or Entertainment Tonight,” says Roth.  “I’m thinking Kelly Ripa has to retire one day.”
