Mishawaka Missionary Shot, Killed in Africa

Charles Wesco died Tuesday morning in Cameroon.

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A missionary from Mishawaka was shot and killed Tuesday while working with his family in Cameroon, Africa.

Charles Wesco, older brother of pastor and State Rep. Timothy Wesco, was shot in the head while walking to a market in the city of Bamenda, according to WSBT-TV in South Bend.

According to relatives, Wesco and his family had only been in the country for two weeks. 

Details of the shooting have not been released by the State Department or the US Embassy. 

Gov. Holcomb issued a statement on Tuesday about Wesco's passing:

"Janet and I are thinking of Rep. Tim Wesco and his family as they grieve the death of his brother Charles. We ask that all Hoosiers join us in offering prayers and condolences to the Wesco family."
