Muncie Bank Bandit Still on the Run

Muncie Police arrested a man Wednesday they thought might be responsible, but he wasn't the man they were looking for.

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Muncie police are still looking for a man who robbed a credit union and shot a customer Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives say a man with a gun walked into the Prime Trust Federal Credit Union and demanded money from the teller.

When a man in the bank tried to intervene, he was shot. The bullet grazed his leg, but the injury was "minor," according to The Star Press.

The suspect left the bank and rode away on a bicycle. Police did not say if he got away with any money.

Police arrested a suspect less than an hour after the robbery. However, as the day went on, officers began to doubt he was involved in the robbery, Chase Winkle of Muncie PD told The Star Press.

(The man who was arrested was taken to the Delaware Co. Jail after officers learned he had an outstanding warrant.)

The robbery suspect is still at large. He's described as a white male with sunglasses, a black hat, khaki shorts, a gray sweater or sweatshirt, and a black or gray backpack.

If you have any information, contact Muncie PD at 765-747-4867.

Ed. Note: WIBC's initial story, published Wednesday afternoon, said that the suspect was arrested. That report was based on information available at the time. New information is now available and is reflected in the updated story.
