Pence in South Korea: The Gay Athlete Meeting and Fred Warmbier
SEOUL, South Korea--Vice President Mike Pence is blasting reports U.S. Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon turned down a request from Pence's office for a meeting between the two.
Pence tweeted #FAKENEWS earlier today. While Pence was tweeting, a White House official was telling a slightly different story to reporters traveling with Pence in South Korea. The official says Pence's office got in touch with the U.S. Olympic Committee to offer Rippon an opportunity to meet with Pence.
"USA Today" reported Pence's staff reached out to the USOC after Rippon criticized Pence last month. Rippon is openly gay. When Pence was governor of Indiana, he signed a religious freedom bill considered hostile to the LGBT community
Pence will attend the opening ceremonies today.
