Perry Township Schools Receives $50K Prize For National Teaching Award
INDIANAPOLIS — Perry Township Schools have been given $50,000 as a prize for winning a national award.
The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) has given the Indianapolis school district the “Award of Excellence for Educator Effectiveness”.
The award recognizes the district’s “Teacher Advancement Program,” or “TAP System.” It is a program where “master teachers” evaluate and mentor other teachers and provide feedback on how to improve their methods in the classroom.
Jennifer Dishman, a teacher at Mary Bryan Elementary School, tells WISH-TV she's proud of Perry Township Schools for winning the award.
"Teachers don't always get that recognition. I know they do sometimes, but they just work so hard," says Dishman.
