Police say the driver was driving down I-80/94 eastbound in a 2011 Buick when it went off the road around 3:30.  Officers are trying to figure out what caused that to happen.

UPDATE: The driver of the Buick has been identified as Robert Horton III, 38 of Gary, Indiana. His family has been notified.

LAKE COUNTY, Ind.--One person was killed in a crash on the Indiana Toll Road Monday morning in Lake County.

Police say the driver was driving down I-80/94 eastbound in a 2011 Buick when it went off the road around 3:30.  Officers are trying to figure out what caused that to happen.

They say it hit the sound barrier wall on the south side and then hit an exit sign. That caused the front wheels of the car to come off and hit a light pole, which then collapsed on top of the exit sign.

Debris from that impact flew up and hit another car.

First responders got the driver out, but they said the driver's injuries were too severe. The driver was pronounced dead by a deputy coroner with Lake County.

Investigators say speed was a factor in the crash and that alcohol may have been a factor. They are waiting to get toxicology results back.
