Police: Student Brought Gun into Gary Elementary School

The school was placed on lockdown Wednesday.

GARY, Ind.--A student brought a gun into an elementary school in Gary Wednesday, say police.

Banneker Elementary at Marquette was placed on lockdown when a student told staff members about another student who had a gun.

Police searched the building and recovered the gun. They are now trying to figure out how the student got it. No one was hurt. They are also considering filing criminal charges against that student.

A robocall from Gary Community Schools went out to parents to let them know about the incident.
