Purdue's Daniels: Come Up With New Chant for IU Games

Purdue President Mitch Daniels wants students to come up with a new chant to replace "IU Sucks".

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue president Mitch Daniels wants the "IU Sucks" chant to end.

Daniels and Purdue men's basketball coach Matt Painter have both asked students to stop the chant; students and faculty have made similar requests.

In a move to end the chant, Purdue Bands will stop playing the song that prompts it, reports WLFI.

But, Daniels still wants students involved in the game. He's challenging Boilermakers to come up with a new, better chant.

"We have some very clever and creative students around here," Daniels told WLFI. "I'm interested to see what they come up with. I want them deviling the other team and maybe cause a little trouble. Mackey has got to stay a tough arena to play in, but I think we can do it, maybe even do it better, without that particular practice."

Purdue and IU play in West Lafayette for the Oaken Bucket on Nov. 30 and meet in Mackey Arena in February.
