Rep. Jim Lucas Introduces Medical Marijuana Bill

The bill would allow for the "cultivation, dispensing, and use of medical marijuana" by people with serious medical conditions.

INDIANAPOLIS — State Representative Jim Lucas of Seymour (R-District 69) has introduced a bill that would legalize medical marijuana in Indiana.

House Bill 1106 would allow for the "cultivation, dispensing, and use of medical marijuana" by people with serious medical conditions.

Implementation and enforcement of the medical marijuana program would fall to the Indiana State Department of Health.

ISDH would also be responsible for cultivation and distribution.

The bill protects medical marijuana users from discrimination and "prohibits harassment of medical marijuana users by law enforcement officials".

The bill also "prohibits cooperation with federal law enforcement officials seeking to enforce federal laws that criminalize the use of marijuana authorized in Indiana".

If passed, the bill would go into effect July 1, 2018.
