Roof Repairs Close Stairs of Indiana War Memorial
INDIANAPOLIS -- The stairs of the Indiana War Memorial will be closed through next spring for a roof repair project.
Retired Air Force Brigadier General J. Stewart Goodwin, the memorial’s executive director, says the roof has been worn down by the elements and has become leaky.
The stairs are already blocked off by gates and a scaffolding has been set up around the memorial.
The inside of the memorial will remain open, but keeping the stairs open while the roof project goes on would be a safety hazard.
The project is expected to cost around $2 million. It is supposed to be done by next spring, but no specific date has been announced.
