Semi Carrying 44,000 Pounds of Ham Overturns on I-65

The driver lost control and the semi overturned on SB I-65 near the north split, spilling ham all over the place.

INDIANAPOLIS-- A semi carrying ham overturned on I-65 southbound early Friday morning.

Investigators say it happened around 2:30 am at mile marker 113 near the north split. The driver lost control and the semi overturned a short time later.

The driver was not seriously injured, but he was taken to a hospital. Part of the truck could be seen hanging off the side of the road, having torn up part of a guardrail.

Just after 4 a.m., emergency crews were able to get the semi back on its wheels.

The accident initially closed lanes from I-65 southbound from West street to the north split, but the left lane has since re-opened.

The driver also had a dog with him at the time of the crash who is okay.

Sadly, the ham has been condemned by the Marion County Health Department and workers were spotted throwing the hams away.
