A Semi Full Of Tyson Chicken Catches Fire On I-70 In Clay County

The semi was traveling eastbound. The driver was able to separate the tractor from the trailer and get a safe distance away.

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. -- Things got a little crispy this morning on I-70 in Clay County, when a semi full of Tyson chicken caught on fire.

Indiana State Police and the Posey Township Fire Department responded to the fire at around 5:30, Monday morning.

Police say a box trailer full of chicken from Springdale, Arkansas, was traveling eastbound when the driver, Michael Baniel, heard a tire explode.

Baniel pulled over and saw flames coming from the rear of the trailer. He grabbed his fire extinguisher and tried to put out the fire, but was unsuccessful.

Baniel was able to separate the tractor from the trailer and drive it and him a safe distance from the fire.

He called 911 and the Posey Township Fire Department was able to put out the fire.

However, the chicken in the trailer got a little too crispy.

I-70 has reopened.
