INDIANAPOLIS-– Sen. Todd Young visited the Brookside neighborhood on the city’s northeast side Monday morning.

He joined pastor Dale Shaw from College Park Church and others for a tour of its Five Pillars of a Healthy Community initiative.

They visited a ministry and some businesses, including Purposeful Design. That’s where many ex-offenders and people who have struggled with homelessness and substance abuse are working to build furniture and getting their lives back on track at the same time.

Young got at part of what’s being done to transform the neighborhood.

“One is of course is transforming the physical landscape and the houses. But more importantly, there’s a ministry going on here. It’s a ministry occurring within the schools, through the Oaks Academy where lower income individuals and other young people are learning what it means to be a good person and getting great educations to boot,” Young said.

The visit to Indianapolis was part of Young’s Fair Shot Agenda, a statewide effort that aims to ensure every Hoosier has a chance to succeed.
