FAYETTE COUNTY, Ind.–A reckless driver caused an accident, fled the scene, and is still on the run.

That’s according to Indiana State Police. They say the driver of a propane truck was seriously injured because he had to drive off the road to avoid a head-on collision with a red SUV.

The accident happened on SR 1 south of Connersville Monday afternoon.

Vernon Lee Brown, 60, of Connersville was going north down a hill on SR 1 in the propane truck, when a red SUV began passing another vehicle going up the hill.

Brown had to avoid the SUV and drove his truck off the right side of the road where he lost control.

The truck went back across the road going off the west side of SR 1 where it hit a utility pole before rolling onto its side. Brown sustained serious injuries and had to be airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis.

Now officers are looking for the red SUV. They believe the driver of that SUV is a woman.
