Suspect Named in Southport Police Officer's Death

Police have identified 28-year-old Jason Brown as the suspect in the shooting death of Lieutenant Aaron Allan.

SOUTHPORT, Ind. -- The identity of the man accused of shooting Southport Police Lieutenant Aaron Allan has been identified.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says the suspect in this case is 28-year-old Jason Brown, who was arrested on suspicion of murder and possession of marijuana. IMPD also interviewed the person who was in the car with Brown; that person was later released from custody.

Brown has four infractions and one misdemeanor on his record. The misdemeanor was a charge of possession of marijuana or a synthetic cannabinoid. He was found guilty and sentenced to 30 days in a county jail.

A woman close to Brown said the car that overturned in the crash was his.

The Marion County Prosecutor is expected to decide on charges against Brown early next week.

IMPD said Friday afternoon that their investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
