Teenager Accused of Killing Siblings Found Competent to Stand Trial

He told police he was freeing the kids from hell.

OSGOOD, Ind.--In 2017, Desiree' McCartney, who was two years old, and her step brother Nathaniel Ritz, who was 11 months, both died of suffocation. Their 15-year-old brother will now stand trial for their murder as an adult, reported Fox19 in Cincinnati.

He was found competent to stand trial this week.

Police believe Nickalas Kedrowitz strangled his sister inside the family's house in Ripley County, on May 6, 2017. She died five days later at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. The 11-month-old, was killed July 21.

"There were several remarks that were made to police officers about freeing the siblings from some sort of hell," said Prosecutor Richard Hertel.

The mother, Christina McCartney, said she believed her boyfriend forced Kedrowitz to kill the children. The teenager was arrested in August 2018, and charged with two counts of murder.

The trial is scheduled to start Feb. 18.
