Uber Driver's Gun Accidentally Fires, Hits Woman

The incident happened between 11 p.m. and midnight Friday near the Embassy Suites Hotel downtown.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis police are investigating a report of a woman injured by a ricocheting bullet when an Uber driver’s gun accidentally misfired Friday night.

The incident happened between 11 p.m. and midnight Friday near the Embassy Suites Hotel downtown.

According to a report documenting the incident, the victim told police her Uber driver’s gun accidentally discharged – causing the bullet to ricochet and injure her.

The victim complained of pain and swelling but was not believed to have sustained serious injuries.

A spokesman for Uber said they were investigating the incident, but weren’t able to verify it as of Sunday afternoon.

The company referred RTV6 to its company policy which prohibits drivers in most states from carrying firearms while using the app.

According to Uber, any driver who violates the firearms policy risks losing their ability to use the app.
