USA Volleyball Girls National Championships Begin Thursday in Indianapolis

An estimated 30,000 people will visit Indy for the 10-day event.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Volleyball players are about to take over Indianapolis.

USA Volleyball will hold its 40th annual Girls Junior National Championships at the Indiana Convention Center over ten days -- Thursday, June 27 through Saturday, July 6.

It will be the second time Indy has hosted the event. The city also did it in 2016.

According to Laura Fawcett of USA Volleyball, more than 1,000 teams and 13,000 athletes will be in Indy during the ten-day event. An estimated 30,000 spectators will visit the city.

The teams will compete for one of 27 different titles across seven age groups, ranging from 11 to 17.

Fawcett encourages fans that will be attending to buy tickets online, to avoid the long lines at the Convention Center.

According to Chris Gahl, Senior Vice President of VisitIndy, this is one of the largest events to come to Indy this year, bringing in an estimated $42 million. That's more than the National FFA Convention and the NRA Convention.
