Volunteers Needed For 500 Festival Mini-Marathon
INDIANAPOLIS -- It might only be January, but everyone involved with the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon wants you to start thinking ahead to May and join their team of volunteers.
The 500 Festival and OneAmerica hosted a volunteer kickoff party Wednesday morning to get the public excited about volunteer opportunities.
“The Mini Marathon takes a small army of volunteers to produce every year,” Jen Pittman, VP of Community Affairs at OneAmerica, told WISH-TV. “Some people can’t run or walk in the race and that’s okay. You can still be part of all the excitement.”
Organizers say they are looking to fill more than 7,000 volunteer spots. Volunteer registration is open to the public starting Thursday. You can go to 500festival.com/volunteer to sign up.
Last year, despite all the rain on the first Saturday of May, more than 35,000 runners, joggers, walkers, and wheelchair racers participated in the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, which goes from downtown Indy to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at 7:30 a.m.
